    In the tertiary educational area, the web communication technologies have been used for a long time for communication among students and teachers. The discussion forum system is one important type of web communication tools. This thesis suggests an advanced category of web-based discussion forum system to enhance the ability of knowledge management in the tertiary educational area. In this project, a prototype web-based discussion forum system is developed that not only contains the benefits of the traditional web communication tools, but also overcomes various shortcomings of current discussion systems by using various technologies such as keyword search methodology, concept-based search methodology, interactive query expansion technology, and concept map methodology. This project provides a solution which students can effectively and efficiently capture, retrieve, and share useful knowledge and relevant information in a web-based discussion forum

    Robust Non-Rigid Registration with Reweighted Position and Transformation Sparsity

    Non-rigid registration is challenging because it is ill-posed with high degrees of freedom and is thus sensitive to noise and outliers. We propose a robust non-rigid registration method using reweighted sparsities on position and transformation to estimate the deformations between 3-D shapes. We formulate the energy function with position and transformation sparsity on both the data term and the smoothness term, and define the smoothness constraint using local rigidity. The double sparsity based non-rigid registration model is enhanced with a reweighting scheme, and solved by transferring the model into four alternately-optimized subproblems which have exact solutions and guaranteed convergence. Experimental results on both public datasets and real scanned datasets show that our method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods and is more robust to noise and outliers than conventional non-rigid registration methods.Comment: IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphic

    Efficient HDR Reconstruction from Real-World Raw Images

    High dynamic range (HDR) imaging is still a significant yet challenging problem due to the limited dynamic range of generic image sensors. Most existing learning-based HDR reconstruction methods take a set of bracketed-exposure sRGB images to extend the dynamic range, and thus are computational- and memory-inefficient by requiring the Image Signal Processor (ISP) to produce multiple sRGB images from the raw ones. In this paper, we propose to broaden the dynamic range from the raw inputs and perform only one ISP processing for the reconstructed HDR raw image. Our key insights are threefold: (1) we design a new computational raw HDR data formation pipeline and construct the first real-world raw HDR dataset, RealRaw-HDR; (2) we develop a lightweight-efficient HDR model, RepUNet, using the structural re-parameterization technique; (3) we propose a plug-and-play motion alignment loss to mitigate motion misalignment between short- and long-exposure images. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our approach achieves state-of-the-art performance in both visual quality and quantitative metrics

    A Finite Element Method for the Multiterm Time-Space Riesz Fractional Advection-Diffusion Equations in Finite Domain

    We present an effective finite element method (FEM) for the multiterm time-space Riesz fractional advection-diffusion equations (MT-TS-RFADEs). We obtain the weak formulation of MT-TS-RFADEs and prove the existence and uniqueness of weak solution by the Lax-Milgram theorem. For multiterm time discretization, we use the Diethelm fractional backward finite difference method based on quadrature. For spatial discretization, we show the details of an FEM for such MT-TS-RFADEs. Then, stability and convergence of such numerical method are proved, and some numerical examples are given to match well with the main conclusions

    Finite element modeling and active vibration control of high-speed spinning flexible beam

    Finite element modeling and active vibration control of a high-speed spinning flexible coupled electromechanical beam is investigated using a first-order approximation coupling (FOAC) model. Due to centrifugal forces caused by eccentricity in a spinning flexible beam, there exists coupling between axial and transverse vibration modes. The partial differential equations of motion of the beam governing this coupling are derived using Hamilton’s principle based on an FOAC model, and a finite element method for discretization is given. It is observed that the zero-order approximate coupling (ZOAC) model is valid for dynamic description of the flexible beam spinning at low speeds, but no longer valid at high speeds. However, the validity of FOAC model is confirmed at different speeds. Piezoelectric elements for active vibration control of the spinning flexible beam are analyzed and a velocity feedback controller is proposed. Simulation results demonstrate good performance of the proposed velocity feedback controller
